U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the removal of 122 illegal immigrants to the People’s Republic of China on June 3 as part of a coordinated effort led by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The operation involved individuals detained across the country and included numerous serious criminal offenders.
The deportees, consisting of 96 males and 26 females aged between 19 and 68, were transported aboard a charter flight arranged for “high-risk” removals. Each had received a final order of removal from immigration courts and was held in ICE detention facilities before the flight. (Related: MOBS of Chinese illegal immigrants SWARM California border.)
Among those deported were individuals convicted of a range of serious offenses, including a 47-year-old male convicted of murder, a 49-year-old male convicted of drug trafficking, a 27-year-old male convicted of rape, a 50-year-old female convicted of bribery and a 55-year-old male convicted of human smuggling.
“Through our inter-agency partnerships and coordination across ICE field offices, we have successfully removed these individuals, many whom were convicted of egregious crimes,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Dallas acting Field Office Director Josh Johnson. “This operation not only enhances the public safety of our communities across the U.S. but also strengthens national security. Our colleagues at ICE come to work every day to identify, arrest and remove illegal aliens who attempt to circumvent our nation’s immigration laws.”
ICE emphasized that these removals are part of its ongoing enforcement mandate to apprehend and deport individuals who violate U.S. immigration laws, particularly those with serious criminal records. The agency then reiterated that any individual in violation of immigration laws, regardless of nationality, may be subject to arrest, detention and removal.
Federal immigration enforcement under President Donald Trump has intensified in recent days, as part of its broader push to enforce U.S. immigration laws and remove criminal illegal immigrants from the country.
For instance, on May 30, ICE agents arrested 36 Chinese and Taiwanese nationals during a raid on an underground nightclub in Los Angeles. ICE suspected that those individuals were unlawfully present in the United States. Meanwhile, ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons told “Fox and Friends” earlier this June that the agency is currently averaging around 1,600 arrests per day and said ICE could ramp up efforts even further if needed.
The Trump administration also authorized the deployment of an additional 2,000 National Guardsmen to Los Angeles, supplementing the 2,100 troops already stationed there on June 9, in response to the escalating protests in the state. The guardsmen are now coordinating with 700 U.S. Marines, also deployed to secure federal assets.
“At the order of the President, the Department of Defense is mobilizing an additional 2,000 California National Guard to be called into federal service to support ICE and to enable federal law-enforcement officers to safely conduct their duties,” Pentagon Chief Spokesperson Sean Parnell posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The deployment was made without invoking the Insurrection Act, which limits the role of the deployed National Guardsmen and Marines to safeguarding federal property and personnel. They are not permitted to make arrests or engage in standard law enforcement duties.
